Our Hall’s History

Our Village Hall resides on the site of the WI Hall which was built in 1934. The WI Hall was later found to have been erected from asbestos and was therefore condemned as unfit for purpose and it was at this time in the late 90’s that we realised we needed a new Village Hall.

Funding was obtained from the local area in small amounts. Financial donations were also generously gifted by the NCC Police Youth Club, Twenty First Century Village Halls, Rural Development Council, Goodwin Trust and Dunham Bridge Company. As well as further funding from Nottinghamshire County Council, Bassetlaw District Council, National Lottery Funding and the Parish Council.

Our local councillors provided much needed help and villagers such as Moss Whate and Geoff Ashton were a driving force and part of the original team behind the original WI Hall and later the start of the new Village Hall. Whilst these people are no longer with us, we still look on the Hall and think of them with pride.

The Village Hall you see today was built in 1998 and named the Millennium Hall to commemorate the millennium. The field at the rear of the Hall was donated by the Spinks’ family. There originally sat an old Manor House, but unfortunately there are no remains that can be seen. The field is now used to hold outside events.

As a registered charity (1060203) with no funding at all, we take a lot of pride in our lovely Village Hall and work hard to ensure that it continues to be the beating heart of Dunham on Trent village as well as the communities of Ragnal, Fledborough and Darlton.
